  3. Making the Measurement

  5. With the mires centered and in focus, one 
  6. is ready to make the measurement.  
  7. Rotate the drum on the left (horizontal) 
  8. until the horizontal plus signs are just 
  9. separated.  The horizontal lines of the 
  10. plus should be aligned-make a straight 
  11. line (figure 1).  If they are not this 
  12. indicates there is corneal toricity at 
  13. some axis other than 180 or 90 degrees 
  14. (figure 2).
